Sex doll: a long story!

 

One might think that the invention of the sex doll is very recent. In fact, its origins date back to the 17th century. In the meantime, sex dolls have evolved into ultra-realistic robotic models.

Dolls used by 17th century sailors

It seems that the origin of sex dolls dates back to the 17th century. At that time, they were called "ladies of travel". They were used by sailors whose stays at sea could last several months, knowing that women were then prohibited in ships.

To compensate, the sailors took with them ladies of voyages, that is to say life-size cloth dolls. And as each sailor didn't necessarily have his own doll, they shared them… Suffice to say that venereal diseases were frequent.

Creation of the inflatable doll in the 20th century

Plastic has changed our daily lives enormously. But if there is an area where we would not necessarily have suspected its importance, it is that of sex dolls. Indeed, plastic is much more practical and “comfortable” than fabric.

Also, from the beginning of the 20th century, the first inflatable dolls were created. These inflatable dolls exist in many female and male versions. Thus, if some users want a whole doll, others will be satisfied with only a portion (top or bottom).

In the early 2000s, the first inflatable doll rentals appeared in Japan. The user has the choice between renting by the hour or by the day, and can even have the doll delivered wherever he wishes.

Silicone and robotic dolls

If inflatable dolls are still the majority in the population of sex dolls, they are gradually being replaced by much more realistic dolls.

Indeed, the 2000s saw the birth of the first silicone dolls. And in recent years, realism has gone even further, with robotic dolls. Some can even make sounds.

Again the varieties of dolls are immense, ranging from dolls reproducing celebrities to models personalized by the user, passing through more or less scary models according to people's tastes. In Japan, some even appear with their doll as if it were their companion.

And in the next decades?

As technology progresses at high speed, we can imagine that we are only at the beginning of robotic dolls. In particular, we can think that progress in artificial intelligence could make these dolls ever more realistic.

Virtual reality and augmented reality can also be outlets to satisfy certain fantasies.
